Title: "Teaching - Learning and Research for the Creative Professions"
Background and Objectives:
The growth of communication technology over last years has deeply effected many aspects of Thai society. It subsequently influenced government policy within the cycle of its revolving planning process. The Eighth National Development Plan intends to guide the development and adjustment of quality in Thai education, in response to the changing socio-economic needs of national and international culture. It recommends reaching action including merging the Ministry of Education with the Ministry of University Affairs under a new name as National Institute for Education, Religion and Culture. The implications are manifold but an important objective is to enhance the development of knowledge and abilities of lecturers and students. A main issue for this process is further adoption of applications of internationally used technology and the underlying concepts of search and research to make this possible. Media technology with its emphasis on new forms of visualization particularly influences the process of studying and teaching Art and Design. It influences activities like research for project creation, project realization and project evaluation. Visualization for Art Media and Design is important, because it creates tools and symbols, which give shape to change in society. As part of preparation for society, education needs also modern technology applied to the processing of lectures for pupils and students. This is particular relevant to those who want to become artists, designers, technicians and professionals dealing with art, media and design. All of us have to promote developments that share and expand knowledge. To help the dissemination for specialists in arts organization, three national conferences have been held in Thailand about the changes and thought for developing new concepts, techniques and so far, processes for creative projects.
This conference is hosted by the Faculty of Fine Art at Rajabhat Institute Suan Sunundha (RISS) in Bangkok with the co-sponsored organisations: the Visual Communication Design Programme, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Rajabhat Chiang Mai (RICM), Faculty of Fine Art, Rajabhat Institute of Suan Dusit (RISD), the Applied Art Design Programme of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Rajabhat Institute of Chandrakasem (RICK) and the Faculty of Art, Media and Design (AMD), University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol.
In fact, all of the Art Developments in the Rajabhat structures are increasingly aware of the need to adjust. Three years ago this awareness created the conditions for organising the first national conference on Modern Technology and Processes for Art, Media and Design in Thailand at Rajabhat Institute Chiang Mai. Its success generated a year later the second conference at Rajabhat Suan Dusit, in co-operation with Chiang Mai. The third conference has been jointly co-ordinated together with Chiang Mai and Suan Dusit hosted by Rajabhat Institute Chandarakasem. To support the rationale above, the fourth seminar will be held on the topic "Teaching - Learning and Research for the Creative Professions" on 27-29 November 2001.
The conferences obtain not only a support from the mentioned organisations but also from reputation Thai and international universities including private business associations and firms.
