Abstract
Life long learning is a developmental process that sets the conditions for all
forms of teaching. This lecture emphasises its relevance for the creative development
of individuals with a focus on Art, media and Design. The lecture covers the
mental and physical relationships of learning within specific cultural settings
as a basis for teaching strategies. It relates expectations in respond to individual
and cultural demand and the availability of nervous energy. Both ability and
drive are seen as issues leading to self-determination as a measurement of intellectual,
artistic and emotional maturity.
Concepts of learning are presented as tools to underpin the development of teaching
strategies. Distinctions in types of learning range from the issues of nature
versus nurture. Interesting evidence is shown about the physical wiring of the
brain in relation to learning sensitivities and problem solving activities for
those with trained visual awareness and those who are only trained in verbal
skills. The concepts raised are apparent in most forms of social and cultural
transfer and have subsequently significant consequences for developing policies
for teaching and research for the creative professions.

Abstract
Life long learning is directed through the development of self determination
which is build around the various belief systems available for the learning
individual. Belief systems are varied but are core tools for the development
of content and style in the visual arts. Educational systems acknowledge levels
of learning. Within higher education levels of learning related to titles but
the consistency of these titles is not even throughout the world. High level
abilities to handle complexity are necessary for a developing nation but developed
nations are also characterised by abilities to genrated original research. Various
possibilities to focus quality in education in an expanding educational system
offered including the concepts of centres of excellence in Fine Art, Media and
performance and Design.
